The numbers are clear:
95% of New Jerseyans believe that political polarization is a problem1
81% of New Jerseyans agree that the two-party system isn’t working to solve important public problems1
35% of NJ voters are unaffiliated with either of the two major political parties as of 20262
Simply put, there has to be a better way.
Founded in 2026 by Patrick Sweeney (born and raised in Atlantic County), the Common Sense Party of NJ seeks to address this longstanding gridlock and frustration by running and supporting candidates in state and federal elections who care deeply about representing the true will of New Jersey voters.
While platforms and beliefs may vary from candidate to candidate (representing the wide variety of views that New Jerseyans hold), all candidates share their commitment to the following three principles:
Policy stances represent the unique independent ideas of the individual candidates and the constituents they seek to represent — not the ideas of their political party or corporate interests
Campaigns are funded by the candidates and their supporters — never by Super PACs
Unity is the antidote to political polarization — supporters of all backgrounds and political affiliations are all welcome to join our movement
